New Workshop // Wet Felting
Sharing a fun new workshop added to the SOS site: Wet Felting, taught by Charlotte Lee! Instead of using hand-dyed fibre braids for spinning yarn, let’s make something different!
In this workshop, Charlotte, the Assistant Production Manager at SweetGeorgia, walks you through the steps of making fibre batts on a blending board, and then using these batts, how to wet felt them for a variety of fun projects. There are several ways that you can blend fibre to get batts – using a drum carder or blending board, but in the videos we demonstrate the process using a blending board.
Click here to join us over at Wet Felting to learn how to wet felt these fibre batts and use them for making felted soaps, brooches, coasters and bookmarks. These can also be excellent projects for young makers to join in the fibre making fun!
We’d love to see what you make throughout the video lessons! For questions, to share your felting projects and to chat with Charlotte, join us over at the SOS Community Forums!
Join the Natural Dyeing Study Group
We’ve been wanting to start SOS study groups for some time now, and since we do everything “seasonally”, it makes the most sense to start with dyeing in the summer… and more specifically, natural dyeing! This summer 2021, we’re running a 10-week study group to work through Caitlin ffrench’s lessons and exercises in the new Natural Dyeing Basics course!
You can reference this study group anytime, even after the summer has passed. But it will be lots of fun and very encouraging if we can dye through the material together!
Click here for more info at our Natural Dyeing Study Group! We will also be releasing two natural dye kits (coming soon), plus check the SOS Calendar for an upcoming Zoom Q&A with Caitlin (May 26), and two Zoom sessions with Kathy Hattori on Natural Dyeing (June 23) and Indigo Dyeing (July 21).
Live Office Hours // May
Save the date for our next Live Office Hours session taking place Thursday, May 27 at 10am PDT! During this one-hour livestream session, Felicia will sit down to chat about what’s been taking place inside the School and to help answer any fibre arts questions you may have.
If you have a fibre arts question you’d like Felicia to chat about in this next Live Office Hours, please send it in advance to: firstname.lastname@example.org! The live session from last month is also now available for viewing online – find it in the Live Office Hours library.
Wishing you a colourful week of fibre arts exploration,
School of SweetGeorgia
