Member Update // Tapestry Weaving with Janna Maria Vallee!

Tapestry Weaving sampler by Janna Maria Vallee

It’s been a busy past couple of weeks after wrapping up our participation at Knit City Vancouver (see Felicia’s recap vlog episode here)… items have found their way back to their proper homes at the SweetGeorgia studio, and life has returned to business as usual. With each item we’d put away though, it would bring back memories of the weekend and all of the inspiration that came along with it. It’s truly inspiring to spend the weekend among so many talented makers, learning about new products and new (to me) skills, it’s left me with a heart full of excitement and renewed energy for continuing to learn even further. One of these which happens to work out quite perfectly with the release of our latest course launch. I’m calling this a “meant to be”!

Now Available // Tapestry Weaving

Tapestry weaving is an art which has been around for hundreds of years, and one which continues to capture the imagination of artists and admirers today, and we are beyond excited for our latest addition to the School of SweetGeorgia – Tapestry Weaving with Janna Maria Vallee!

Janna Maria Vallee is a celebrated interdisciplinary artist working primarily in weft-faced tapestry woven with her own naturally dyed Everlea Yarn, and we couldn’t be happier to have her join us at the School of SweetGeorgia! In this comprehensive introductory course, Janna guides us through the very basics of this art form, teaching us the essential tapestry weaving skill of “meet and separate”: a method that helps maintain proper tension and makes gorgeous colour blending, as well as different types of looms used, how to weave shapes and more!

Here’s what our students have been up to recently…

  • Such a beautifully soft and fun rainbow of colour in Nadia’s hand-dyed skeins, dyed using a combination of both low immersion and hand painting techniques.
  • Rachel has warped and begun the weaving of her Epic Cloth Challenge – we can’t wait to see the finished result!
  • Congratulations and all the best to Elise’s Epic Cloth Challenge start! We’re excited to follow along with you and to see what your challenge becomes.
