Today we are happy to share with you plenty of exciting new and upcoming content to the School of SweetGeorgia! Whether it’s a new technique you’re interested in learning yourself, or our new (free!) beginner course that you can share and knit along with a family member or friend, we hope these new workshops help provide plenty of creative making inspiration!

New Course Now Available // Learn to Knit: First Scarf

Throughout the course of sharing knitting workshops and tutorials here on the SOS site, one question we’ve often been asked is: “But how can I learn to start knitting”. Well, we hope our newest videos can help!

In this beginner’s Learn to Knit course, Tabetha Hedrick teaches the very basics of knitting including the long tail cast on, knit stitch and bind off. With these, you will knit a garter stitch scarf to keep you cozy and show off your new knitting skills!

Upcoming // New Live Zoom Workshops

Adjusting to a different way of bringing new content to the school amid travel restrictions and physical distancing, we are happy to announce two new exciting live Zoom workshops to SOS students this June.

Spinning with Supported Spindles, taught by Debbie Held

The supported spindle has a unique beauty to it, imparted not only in the finished yarn itself but also found in the fluid, meditative movements of spinning that yarn. In this course, join Debbie Held as she takes you through each step of her own supported spindling process, demystifying these spindles and demonstrating how you too can spin your most beautiful yarns yet — even when you’re on the go!

This workshop will be delivered initially as a live Zoom workshop on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 10am PST. Click here to learn more at Spinning with Supported Spindles!

Stripes in Tapestry, taught by Janna Maria Vallee

Tapestry weaving is an art that has been around for hundreds of years and continues to capture the imagination of artists and admirers today. Following the first course teaching the basics of Tapestry Weaving, join Janna Maria Vallee as she leads you through multiple approaches to creating stripes in tapestry, including horizontal and vertical stripes.

Live Office Hours // June 2020

Our next Live Office Hours will take place on Thursday, June 25 at 10am PST. Please join us for a chat, updates from the school, and to get your fibre arts questions answered by Felicia! If you can’t watch along with us live, no worries as we always post the video on the SOS online library afterwards for all members to enjoy.

If you have any questions for the next Live Office Hours, they can be sent to: felicia@sweetgeorgiayarns.com. Thank you for sending in your questions!

Don’t forget to share your recent projects with us either in the SOS community forums, or by tagging us on Instagram at @sweetgeorgia or #schoolofsweetgeorgia. We always love to see your recent works!

Wishing you a fibre filled weekend of making,
Brigid + School of SweetGeorgia
