Leah Learns Design

Follow along as Leah learns what it takes to design a sweater with the help of our design director, Tabetha Hedrick!
Tabetha Hedrick · July 9, 2020

Welcome to Leah learns Design. How do you learn to design a sweater? Where would you even start? These are the questions our video editor, Leah Churchley, brought to Tabetha Hedrick when she thought of a cardigan she just had to make!

In this series, Tabetha leads Leah through the process of dreaming up and knitting up a design from scratch. Tabetha and Leah go over:

  • Conceptualizing a design through sketching and swatching
  • Determining measurements, row counts, and stitch counts
  • Troubleshooting tips
  • Finishing
  • Taking your design further with other sizes, finalizing it for sale, etc.

We hope you’ll join us on this journey and perhaps dip your toes into the world of knitwear design yourself!

Leah uses SweetGeorgia Yarns Superwash DK for her sweater, but you are welcome to explore any of the many yarns available to you!

If you’re ready to buy your first spinning wheel, you may be feeling more overwhelmed than excited, as well-intended voices offer spinning-term-laden and often contradictory opinions. Here’s my advice: Relax. There is no “best wheel for new spinners.” There’s only the wheel that’s best for you and your own situation at the time of purchase.

Trying to remember what I wore for a three-days film so you`d think it`s all done in one go 😜. If you are wondering what we are filming…check out the reel schoolofsweetgeorgia . Sneak peaks of the #amigurumi projects coming to SOS!

The crochet cardigan was one of the earliest pieces I did with sweetgeorgia ! It`s Tough Love Sock in Bewitched which sadly discontinued a while back.

My most recent finished sweater, made from handspun. Made from. 100% Polwarth fibre 2-ply woolen spun so it`s super light and extra squishy and maybe just a little too warm for our unseasonably warm weather. The colours make me want to drink a peach Bellini.
