So, you walk into a yarn shop and you’re presented with an amazing wall display of beautiful yarns in every possible colour... overwhelming, isn't it? The hardest thing to decide when you're starting a new knitting project or choosing yarns in a shop is... what colour do I pick?
What are we afraid of? We’re worried we’ll choose a colour that will look bad on us or make us feel silly when we wear it or we aren’t sure which colours go with which. Knitting takes a big investment of time, money, and energy, so there is added pressure to choose the “right” colours.
Whether you've been knitting and working with colour for years or just getting started, this mini-workshop will walk you through the basics of working with colour and help you feel more confident about creating your own palettes and colour combinations for your projects. In our time together, we will play and combine different colours based on a variety of inspirations and then find different ways to knit them together to produce completely unique results.
My hope is that you will be inspired to continue the lifelong journey in exploring colour and the many ways we can use it in our crafts. My goal is to walk you through that fear and trepidation and replace it with confidence and joy. Join me to learn about and play with colour!
Driven by an obsessive, passionate and often tumultuous relationship with color, Felicia Lo has intensely pursued everything related to design, dyeing, spinning, weaving, knitting and photography. In 2005, Felicia Lo founded SweetGeorgia Yarns, an artisanal hand-dyed yarn company. Starting out with just three skeins of yarn for sale on the newly minted Etsy.com, demand soon exploded within a matter of months. Over the past decade, SweetGeorgia Yarns has grown into a team of skilled craftspeople and artisans led by Felicia, who also teaches fibre arts fundamentals including dyeing, spinning, weaving, knitting, and color theory for crafters and artisans. Felicia is the author of "Dyeing to Spin & Knit" and teaches "Spinning Dyed Fibers" on Craftsy.com. Felicia currently lives and works in the Vancouver area with her young family.
"Hi Felicia, I finished watching all the videos and going through the workbook. It was fantastic! I learned so much! You were great! You went through all the material in a very engaging, matter of fact manner. I loved all the graphics of colour wheels that explained the difference between monochromatic, analogous, complementary, split complementary, etc.
I can’t wait to start knitting some swatches. I just wish I had a whole pile of SweetGeorgia yarns in front of me!! :-) ...
This workshop is so well done and so professional. I have never seen a yarn company put together anything as creative and informational as this. You should feel so proud of this class that you have created!"
